UVA Club of Richmond: Poetry Reading and Wine Tasting
The UVA Club of Richmond invites all alumni, friends, and families to join us for an evening of poetry reading and wine tasting with Yolanda (Y.B.) Taylor (CLAS '76).
$15 per ticket to include wine tasting and charcuterie. Y.B. Taylor's books of poetry have been featured at the VMFA and other locations around town and will also be available for purchase at the event. Come early to sample wine and mingle before Y.B. shares her work. Following the reading, the poet will be available to answer questions and sign her books.
About the Poet:
Y.B. Taylor writes poetry from the perspective of a Black woman born and raised in Richmond VA, a former capital of the Confederacy. She was born the same year as the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision, Brown v. Board of Education. Y.B. is familiar with segregation though her family desperately tried to shield her from the worst parts of it. Y.B. Taylor’s first introduction to integration, on an ongoing basis, was through education when she entered junior high school and later through employment. Current events, history, and personal experiences have become fodder for her poetry.
