Cryptocurrency - What's Next?

All alumni, friends, and families were invited to join us for an afternoon conversation on cryptocurrency. We learned more about what's next on the horizon for investors, markets, and the University of Virginia.

Join Kristina Alimard (DAR '03), COO of UVIMCO, the University of Virginia Investment Management Company, and Todd Simkin (CLAS '97, PAR '23), Associate Director, Susquehanna International Group for this discussion of cryptocurrency. We heard how UVA, investors, and markets are managing cryptocurrency and insights into the new and growing class of assets.

Meet Our Speakers:

Kristina Alimard (DAR '03)

Kristina Alimard is the chief operating officer of UVIMCO, with responsibility for all non-investment functions of the organization.

Ms. Alimard's primary areas of responsibility include risk management, operational due diligence, legal, investment operations, investment and corporate accounting and reporting, taxes, compliance, information technology and human resources. She also serves as UVIMCO’s primary liaison to the University of Virginia and foundation personnel. Ms. Alimard joined UVIMCO in April 2003.

Ms. Alimard received a B.S. in accounting from the University of Delaware and an M.B.A. degree with highest distinction from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, where she was awarded the William Michael Shermet award for academic excellence, determination and service. She holds the CPA designation and is also a CFA charterholder.

Todd Simkin (CLAS '97, PAR '23)

Since graduating from UVA, Todd has worked as a trader for Susquehanna International Group (SIG). Over the course of the past 24 years, he has traded equity options, ADRs, currencies, and fixed income products. Todd oversaw firm-wide education for nearly a decade, where he taught courses in derivative finance, decision making under uncertainty, negotiations, and influence. Currently, Todd is the CEO of SIG Re, a Bermuda-based reinsurance company, and an investor with SIG’s private equity team focusing on decentralized finance and crypto-assets.
