Behind the Scenes at UVA's WTJU Radio Station with Nathan Moore, General Manager

Behind the Scenes visits WTJU, UVA's beloved radio station. Take a virtual tour of the radio station and learn what it is like to work and play at WTJU from Nathan Moore, the General Manager. Nathan will join us for a conversation and behind-the-scenes look at how WTJU has stayed alive and thrived for over six decades.

Nathan Moore has been with WTJU since 2011. Nathan came to UVA from Free Speech Radio News in Madison, WI, which produces a daily independent newscast for more than 100 stations. All alumni, parents, and friends are welcome to join us.

History:

WTJU was founded in 1955 when UVA’s Department of Speech and Drama decided they needed a UVA-based educational radio station. The fraternity Kappa Delta Pi put up a large part of the funds necessary to get the station off the ground. Two years later, WTJU had a small but dedicated group of 100 listeners and went on the air, broadcasting throughout Charlottesville. Today, WTJU continues its mission of education and community engagement. Four main genres of music (classical, jazz, folk, and rock), as well as community stories, keep the airways alive with sound.

Listen Live to WTJU:

Tune in to WTJU 91.1 FM in Central Virginia. To listen online you can use our web player. The player offers the full playlist for the on-air show, updated in real-time.

The Zoom link to join us will be emailed to all registrants prior to the event.

In days like these, the restorative power of music has never been more important. All year long, UVA's community radio station, WTJU 91.1 FM, has continued to broadcast excellent music and help our community stay connected. Since March, the studios have been closed to the public.
