UVA Club of Washington DC: Cavs Care - AFAC Bagging Night
UVA alumni, parents, and friends are taking on Virginia Tech alumni in a charity race again this year! From November 1st until December 12th, the UVA Club of Washington, DC is competing against the DC Hokies to see which school's club can collect more donations to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). If we win, Virginia Tech’s Alumni Association will donate $50 to the UVA Club of Washington, DC's Scholarship Fund! Donate online here.
As part of the drive, join us for a family-friendly event at AFAC’s warehouse to bag, produce, and sort food into individual portions for distribution to the 2,300+ client families who come to AFAC each week. You can also bring food donations to the event to be weighed and counted towards our tally. AFAC recommends the following low-sugar and low-sodium items: canned tuna, canned soup, canned vegetables, peanut butter (in plastic jars), and cereal. This popular event typically fills up fast and space is limited, so sign up ASAP! Due to the limited space and COVID-19 restrictions, attendees will be charged $20/group (up to 4) to reserve their spot; fund will go towards our online drive for AFAC.
Please note the following local guidelines and AFAC guidelines must be adhered to when attending. Masks will be required and we will maintain at least 6-feet of distance between attendees, but please note that the bagging will be done inside the warehouse. Please note despite precautions, no interaction is risk-free, and therefore we recommend that if you are in a high-risk category, please do not sign up for the event. Additionally, guests should not attend if experiencing any flu-like symptoms or you have been in close contact with a sick person or anyone diagnosed with COVID-19.
Please note for safety reasons, children under 8 cannot attend. Children between the ages of 8 and 12 should be supervised by an adult(s).
We hope you can join us to compete for a great cause!
