UVA Clubs: "Through the Lens" with Wintre Foxworth Johnson
All alumni, friends, and families are invited to join us for Through the Lens, a virtual faculty lecture series brought to you by the UVA Clubs Global Network, in partnership with Lifetime Learning. In February, we'll be joined by Wintre Foxworth Johnson (Col '12), an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the School of Education and Human Development (EHD) at the University of Virginia.
Professor Johnson will lead a discussion on "Education Means Emancipation: The Wisdom of Black Educators and Communities in their Pursuits of Literacy Across Time."
Attendees can expect a robust discussion of:
- Center the role of Black education in the development of public education in the U.S.
- Consider the lessons we might glean from various African American educators and intellectuals across time.
- Challenge prevailing deficit narratives about Black communities’ literacy practices and development.
We hope you'll join us for an engaging discussion!
