Overview

Join Lifetime Learning for a guided bird-watching walk in the Fort Myers’ Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. UVA’s alums, friends, and families will experience birds in their natural habitat. We will stroll along a raised boardwalk with an excellent vantage point to glimpse birds that make their home in this Preserve or migrate there for the winter. During this 90-minute walk, naturalists will point out birds and share a bit about plants and wildlife, the history of the Slough Preserve, and its role in our ecosystem.

Binoculars, a refillable water bottle, and comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. This program is for those eight years and older.

We will meet you at the head of the trail. Parking is limited. Carpooling encouraged.

About the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, Fort Myers

It is over 3,500 acres of wetland ecosystem with a Boardwalk trail and Interpretive Center. The cypress slough catches and slowly filters rainwater towards Estero Bay. Many animals, like otters, alligators, turtles, wading birds, and more, are at the Slough year-round. Others, like migrating birds and butterflies, use the Slough as a feeding area or a winter home.
