The Future of Grounds – Launching the Discovery Nexus
All alumni, friends, and families were invited to learn about the vision for the School of Data Science's future home within the Discovery Nexus and Emmet-Ivy Corridor. Audiences participated in a special virtual tour of the first academic building to be constructed on the 14.5-acre Emmet-Ivy corridor.
Speakers:
- Phil Bourne, Stephenson Dean of the School of Data Science and Professor of Biomedical Engineering
- Alice Raucher, Architect for the University
- Margot Rogers (GSAS '92, LAW '92), UVA Vice President for Strategic Initiatives
TThe School of Data Science is convening the best and brightest in this cutting-edge field, working with schools and units across Grounds to cultivate future leaders in healthcare and precision medicine, biotechnology, environment, education, cybersecurity, fintech, and beyond.
In the session, we:
- Saw the formative architecture and land design for the School of Data Science (SDS) and its placement with the University of Virginia and Charlottesville.
- Gained a better understanding of the vision of the Emmet-Ivy corridor, including what is being called the Discovery Nexus, focused on “creativity,” “democracy,” and “discovery.”
- Learned how members of the greater UVA community can bring their knowledge set to Grounds for collaboration in research, teaching, mentorship, and more at the SDS Corporate Commons, Capital One Hub, and other public spaces in the corridor.
Please join the School of Data Science for upcoming SDS events, including our First Friday webinars and Datapalooza on November 19th.
