Dear Fellow Philly Hoos,
As a fellow Wahoo and a singing member of the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia, I wanted to share an invitation I think you will truly enjoy — and one that offers access to an experience rarely available to non-members.
Founded in 1872, the Orpheus Club is one of America’s oldest and most celebrated men’s singing organizations. Our members — professionals from across Philadelphia — come together to perform everything from classical choral works to contemporary arrangements and original musical comedy. Many sang in collegiate a cappella groups like the Hullabahoos and Virginia Gentlemen. We’ve been called a hidden gem of the city, and this season, we’re opening our doors to UVA alumni, friends, and families with a special, limited-time offer.
UVA alumni are invited to attend one of our upcoming performances at a deeply discounted rate:
- Christmas Concert – Tuesday, December 9, 2025 · Academy of Music · $40/person
- Twelfth Night Revels – Thursday, February 5, 2026 · Orpheus Clubhouse (254 S. Van Pelt St., Center City) · $60/person
A legendary Orpheus tradition — an original, comic musical production created and performed by Club members, with extravagant costumes, sharp wit, and songs spanning Broadway, jazz, and pop.
- Midwinter Concert – Saturday, March 7, 2026 · Zellerbach Theater, University of Pennsylvania · $40/person
Hoos may prefer to purchase a bundle of 2 tickets to Revels *plus* 2 tickets to one of the concerts for $175 – an excellent value. Normally, attendance at these events requires associate membership ($495 annually, or $395 for those 35 years old and under). This offer provides a rare opportunity for fellow Hoos to experience the Club’s music, fellowship, and humor firsthand — and, we hope, to consider joining our community of associate members.
The Orpheus Club’s blend of artistry, tradition, and conviviality feels perfectly aligned with the UVA spirit of camaraderie and culture. If you are interested in taking advantage of this one-time offer, please click here.
Warm regards,
Eric Schwartz (Col '90, Law '95)
